Out of all the varieties of flowers in the world, which is your sentimental favorite?  I’m amazed how many people have a fast answer to this question, influenced by serendipity and love.

Mine is the poppy, a sentimental favorite sparked from the backyard garden of our first home, a fixer-upper.  By the time we moved into this house, the garden had been neglected for several years and needed attention (the garden was a fixer-upper, too).  We left the garden untouched and the following spring discovered a tangled symphony of color - orange tiger lilies, purple allium and red poppies.  Lots and lots of red poppies, blooming during our anniversary week.  And that was that:  poppies become our sentimental favorite.
