Namesake

Almost Biblical

With Namesake Arms Held High as

If To Stop The Sun

Late this past spring I went to Joshua Tree National Park for the first time. As with many of the national parks it was full of delightful surprises, not the least were the namesake Joshua Trees. In the heat of the desert sun, they stand steady, seeming to cast a spell of possibility to raise life in the midst of extreme heat and dry. Encountering this specimen in front of sun baked rocks, standing alone but still thriving carried a promise of endurance in the face of unlikely odds, a moment that was so welcome in the midst of all the contemporary craziness that passes for civilization.
