Rise to Sky and Light

Pope Farm Conservancy, Madison WI

Late Spring, Longer Days

And The Oldest Trees Reach Their

Green Hope to the Sky

Ah springtime.  A time of looking forward, hoping for more.  More warmth, more light, more gentleness after Winter’s hard disciplines.  I love to watch trees tentatively respond to the rising temperatures and greater sunlight.  In particular, I like watching the oldest trees which are never in a rush to push out their first green stems to the sky.  They seem to know the reach of Spring and Summer and Fall and Winter.  They know their place in that cycle, without protest or pride, quietly confident.  As I’ve said elsewhere, I really want to be a tree when I grow up.
